Ultrasound Exam
What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging method that uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the body, using a transducer.

Commonly used to evaluate the abdominal and pelvic organs, breasts, thyroid glands, heart, testes, and blood flow in arteries and veins.

Ultrasound is a simple, safe, painless diagnostic procedure that bounces high-frequency sound waves off parts of the body and captures the returning “echoes” as images.

There is no injection or radiation exposure associated with ultrasound.

Ultrasound Breast Exam
Clermont Radiology offers many different types of ultrasound exams. Ultrasound is able to capture moving images of pelvic and abdominal function (including gallstones), breast abnormalities, the male reproductive system, the kidney and thyroid systems, as well as the developing fetus, among other applications.

When enhanced with a special Doppler technique, ultrasound can also capture moving blood images of large blood vessels and moving images of the heart using echocardiography.

What should I expect?

You will be positioned on a comfortable exam table and a clear gel will be applied to you skin; the gel acts as a conductor. A transducer, a hand-held device that sends and receives ultrasound signals, is moved back and forth over the area of your body being imaged.

Images instantly are captured on a television-like monitor and transferred to film or videotape for our radiologist to review and interpret. Depending on the type of exam, it usually takes from 15-30 minutes to complete. After the exam you will be able to return to your normal activities.
Doctor will review you test results with you.
How should I prepare?

Preparation varies for each type of ultrasound exam. Please contact your doctor or Amber Radiology for the prep you may require.

How do I get my results?

After your study is complete, our board certified radiologist will evaluate the image results and send a full report to your doctor, who will discuss the results with you.
